meet the LIGHTHOUSE 100 race leadership
The LIGHTHOUSE 100 would not be possible without the dozens of hard-working individuals who graciously volunteer their time and efforts, whether as course marshals, aid station volunteers, medical personnel, or otherwise. The race directors and organizers are indebted to them for all they do to ensure that the LIGHTHOUSE 100 will be a resounding success!

race direCtor: ethan olds

Despite his terrible taste in college football teams -- he is a Michigan State grad, after all :) -- Ethan Olds is an accomplished ultramarathoner, based in Lansing, who has already completed several ultras, including 100-mile races!
Ethan brings an enthusiasm "unknown to mankind" -- to quote his least-favorite college football coach :) -- and has the detail-oriented approach to ensure that you will have the best ultra experience possible at the LIGHTHOUSE 100!!

If any couple is uniquely-qualified to host long-distance road ultras, it is Dave and Alex. As a runner, Dave specializes in road ultras (and especially those that are over 100 miles in length), and he has run some of the most iconic road ultras in the world, including the Badwater 135, the Keys 100 (4 times), the 153-mile Spartathlon in Greece, and the 175-mile UltraMilano-Sanremo in Italy. And as the race director of the hugely-successful DAYTONA 100, Dave has a proven track record of putting on world-class ultras. Additionally, all of the above races are road races that travel through many cities, and do so without any road closures.
In total (currently), Dave has run 26 ultras of 100 miles or longer. In short, he knows what makes a well-organized ultra. And as a Michigander (growing up in the Detroit area), and a Yale (undergrad) and Notre Dame Law (magna cum laude) graduate, Dave is very detail-oriented; the LIGHTHOUSE 100 will be among -- if not the most -- organized race you will ever run. By Dave's side at almost all of the above ultras has been his wife Alex. A road racer herself, Alex brings a level of expertise from the crew logistics perspective that is virutally-unmatched. For example, she crewed Dave at the 175-mile UltraMilano-Sanremo by herself. |
Dave and Alex have been part of the ultrarunning community for many years now, and are well-known in both Michigan and throughout the national ultrarunning community. They founded the Zwitty Ultra Coaching Program in 2014, and the dozens of current "Team Zwitty" members can attest to the passion that Dave and Alex possess for the sport.
Finally, Dave is an online columnist for "The Voice of the Sport," Ultrarunning Magazine. |
