Announcements for 2022 (Updated May 5th, 2022)

1) Race Information: The 2022 Lighthouse 100 will begin at 6:00am EST at the Mission Point Lighthouse (20500 Center Rd, Traverse City, MI 49686) on June 11th, 2022.

The Lighthouse 50 will begin at 12:00pm EST on June 11th in Kewadin, MI at the Large Parking Lot just west of the Milton Township Historic Hall – 7268 Cairn Hwy, Kewadin, MI 49648.

Both races will finish at 12:00pm EST on Sunday, June 12th, inside of Bayfront Park in Petoskey, MI (101 E Lake St, Petoskey, MI 49770).

100-mile runners will have 30 hours to complete the race and 50-milers will have 24 hours to finish.

2) Official Race Program and Course Maps: The 2022 Official Race Program, Turn-by-Turn Directions, and GPX File have been published to our website.

Crewed Runners: I suggest printing out a copy of both the turn-by-turn directions and race program to have in the crew vehicle during the event.
Uncrewed Runners: I suggest downloading both files on to your mobile phone and carry that phone with you during the race.

Note: The 2022 Race will follow the same course routing for 2021. After meeting with local officials and reviewing our current race routing, we were unable to reroute the course to make the 50-mile route an exact 50-mile route. The real issue is having a space to host the starting line that can accommodate 75 runners and their vehicles. The 50-mile route will measure 52.3 miles while the 100-mile route measures 100.07 miles.

3) Packet Pickup: Packet Pickup will take place at the Grand Traverse County Civic Center Pavilion from 4:00pm EST to 6:00pm EST – 1213 W Civic Center Drive, Traverse City, MI 49686.

We understand that not every participant will be able to attend Friday’s packet pickup and we will have race bibs available to be picked up before each race begins on Saturday. While bibs will be available, swag bags will not be available and will have to be picked up at the finish line.

4) Race Shuttle for Uncrewed Runners: Please note, the Lighthouse 100/50 does not run a race shuttle to transport uncrewed runners. Uncrewed runners will need to find their own transportation to the starting line of their respective race. The City of Petoskey, which hosts our finish line, does allow overnight parking for race vehicles but there is no option to overnight park your vehicle at the starting line of either the 100-mile or 50-mile race.

NOTE: We have had a few runners for both the 100 and 50 reach out to us who are looking for transportation to the start line before the race. If any crewed runner, especially in the 100-mile, that has an interest in potentially offering a ride to an uncrewed runner, please reach out to me directly.

5) Race Rules: Please make sure to familiarize yourself with the ‘Rules and Regulations’ page of our website . We have specific rules regarding pacers, crews, and nighttime running hours – Please review these rules and reach out to me if there are any additional questions.  There will be a small pre-race meeting 30 minutes before the start of each race to go over the most important items, but the safety and success of our event relies on each participants adherence to all race rules.

6) Bib Numbers: In approximately two weeks I will publish a new document to the website that will show each runners assigned bib numbers for the 2022 race. Additional communication will be sent when bib numbers have been assigned and are available.

7) Weather Policy: In the event that severe weather moves into the area, it is the responsibility of the runner to be safe, seek shelter, and only proceed when the threat has passed. With our race being a 100-mile point-to-point, not only is it impossible to stop all runners on the course simultaneously, but there is a chance that while some runners are being affected by severe weather, other runners are experiencing blue skies.

8) Drop Bags: Uncrewed runners will be welcome to utilize drop bags throughout the race and can have drop bags sent to any of the 9 main aid stations along the course. Please bring drop bags to pre-race check-in on Friday, if possible, but drop bags will also be accepted on race morning. Please clearly mark all drop bags with you name, bib number, and drop bag location.

9) Volunteers: We are still seeking 4-5 individuals to help us out during the overnight hours on Saturday. If you know someone who may be interested in being a part of our race, please reach out to me directly at lighthouse100ultra@gmail.com

10) Spectators:  Spectators/friends are more than welcome to follow you along your journey during the race. We do have a rule in place where we ask each runner to have only one crew vehicle (defined as the vehicle containing all of your gear, water, food, etc.), but spectators are more than welcome to park along the course and watch you run by. The reason for the ‘one crew vehicle’ rule is because there are certain spots along the course where parking for crews will be limited. If we have one runner constantly being crewed by multiple vehicles, we are taking opportunities away from other runners to potentially meet with their own crews.

11) Bicycles: Due to a change in our Liability Insurance policy, we are no longer permitted to allow pacers to use bicycles. We have allowed this in the past on certain sections of the course, but we no longer permitted to allow this option anywhere along the route.

12) Waiver for Pacers and Crew Members: All pacers and crew members much each fill out our online waiver prior to participating in the race. This can be done anytime between now and race weekend. This year, we are doing everything online and the form can be filled out in just a few seconds.
Runners, please pass along this link to anyone who will be joining you for the race:

Welcome to one of America's most-beautiful road ultramarathons . . . the LIGHTHOUSE 100-mile and LIGHTHOUSE 50-mile ultras!!

In Northern Michigan, at sunrise (6:00 am) on Saturday, June 11th, 2022, 100-mile runners will depart from the Old Mission Lighthouse, on the peninsula north of Traverse City, and head south to Traverse City, along the bay, and then make their way north, through Elk Rapids, Torch Lake, Norwood, Charlevoix . . . all the way to the Petoskey Lighthouse!!!

The LIGHTHOUSE 100 is a point-to-point course that travels through some of the most scenic areas our country has to offer. You will be running almost exclusively on two-lane roads and paved non-motorized pathways all while enjoying countless unobstructed views of the water.

Run mainly on quiet seaside bike paths and streets with little to no traffic (only 3-5 of the 100 miles are on the main road through the area (US31), and those few miles have a very wide shoulder), the LIGHTHOUSE 100 is a gorgeous course with terrain that ranges from flat to rolling hills.  And with the moderate-to-cool North Michigan temperatures in early-June, this course is absolutely perfect for anyone looking to run a first 100-miler, or to notch a "PR" in the distance.   Additionally, with the race so near the summer equinox, runners will enjoy 16 full hours of daylight (6:00 am until 10:00 pm), and when the sun sets, a full moon will illuminate their way throughout the night!

You can run the LIGHTHOUSE 100 either crewed or uncrewed, that's up to you.  We will have fully-stocked aid stations approximately every 10 miles, and unmanned water stations every 5 miles between those stations.

Whether you run crewed or uncrewed, rest-assured, you are in for a treat . . . this course is insanely-beautiful. Dave Krupski, the Lighthouse 100 founder, has run road ultras all over the world, from the California desert (Badwater) to the coast of Italy (UMS 175), to the iconic Spartathlon in Greece . . . and while Lighthouse cannot claim to be as difficult as those races, it is every bit as beautiful (and perhaps more so)!

In conjunction with the LIGHTHOUSE 100, we will also be hosting the LIGHTHOUSE 50 mile race (which will follow the second-half of the 100-mile course)!

You will pass through gorgeous seaside towns such as Petoskey, Bay Harbor, Charlevoix, Torch Lake, Elk Rapids, Acme, and right through downtown Traverse City, America's "cherry capital"!

Regardless of which race you choose, both races will be electronically-timed, so your friends and family who are at home will be able to follow your progress online!

Cancellations and Deferrals

Because the LIGHTHOUSE 100  and LIGHTHOUSE 50 have many upfront costs, we have a strict and uniform policy of no deferrals, refunds, or transfers.

We do understand that plans change, injuries happen, and various situations arise, but we feel it is most fair to apply a uniform policy to all, instead of a subjective line of who should receive a refund and who shouldn’t. All purchases and sales are 100% final, no exceptions. Refunds will not be issued based on weather conditions. We appreciate your understanding in this matter.
