COVID-19 Updates
UPDATE 2: March 20th, 2020
LIGHTHOUSE 100/50 CANCELLED
All Entries will be rolled over to the 2021 Lighthouse 100/50
It is with great sadness and regret to announce that as of this writing, the 2020 Lighthouse 100/50 scheduled for May 30th and 31st is cancelled.
As we have continued to monitor updates at a local, state, national, and international level, it has become increasingly clear to us at the Lighthouse 100 that we do not have the luxury of time to ‘wait and see’ how the events of the coming weeks will unfold. In the importance of protecting community health and the vast number of unknowns regarding COVID-19, the 2020 race will not take place. It is important to make this decision sooner rather than later in order accommodate the advance planning needs of both the race staff and its participants.
As a 1st year Race Director, I am absolutely crushed about this decision. However, I also recognize that this is the most appropriate decision I can make at this time. For runners, crew, race staff, and volunteers alike, a host of significant expenses are at stake. From a race perspective, a number of those expenses have already been incurred. Prolonging a decision only creates additional risks for hotel, flight, vehicle rental, and additional expenses that may not be able to be recouped if we were to wait too long to ‘pull the plug’. It is my hope that by making an announcement early, each one of you has ample time to adjust/cancel plans as needed.
One of the more unique things about the Lighthouse 100 is that because we are a 100-mile point-to-point road race, we need to work with every city, township, and municipality that our runners are lucky enough to pass thru. Whereas no more than a week ago everything was ‘All Clear’, we have now entered a new situation where certain approvals are ‘on hold’ pending future, unknown developments. Sure, we could wait until the week of the race to make a decision, but if we chose to do that and then were told at the 11th hour that we would be unable to put on our event, we would have done an absolute disservice to each and every one of you.
The Lighthouse 100 has a uniform policy of no refunds, exchanges, or bib transfers. However, because the Lighthouse 100 has always maintained a policy of allowing deferrals to next year’s race for ANY reason,we have made the decision to completely roll over 100% of the entries for 2020 into next year’s event. NOTE: All rolled-over entries will be eligible for 2021 only and will not be eligible to be deferred 2022.
Please keep an eye out for additional communication from us in the weeks and months ahead as we navigate into unknown territory. For all runners who have previously registered, we will work with UltraSignUp to come up with the best solution for rolling everyone’s entry into 2021. Rest assured,if you were signed up to join us in 2020, you will be able to register and run in 2021 for no additional costs.
Again, as a 1st year Race Director and fellow ultra runner, I want to personally apologize to each you about these developments and also thank you for choosing to the Lighthouse 100. I have put a countless number of hours into planning for this event since taking over late last year. I am disappointed that you, as runners, will not be able to see the amount of work and effort that has gone into making the 2020 Lighthouse 100 the best version yet. I look forward to hopefully seeing each and every one of you in 2021.
Stay safe and be well,

UPDATE 1: March 13th, 2020
All of us here at the Lighthouse 100 recognize that there are many questions about how the coronavirus (COVID-19) may affect the 2020 Lighthouse 100/50 scheduled to be run on May 30th and May 31st, 2020.
As of this writing, the Lighthouse 100/50 will take place as scheduled.
With that being said, the situation right now is very fluid and we will continue to monitor local, state, national, and international developments as additional information comes to light. In the coming weeks, we will continue to provide e-mail updates to our participants and we will also publish all updates to this page and our Facebook page (https://www.facebook.com/lighthouse100ultra).
Obviously, this is quite a tough situation because there are a lot of things we simply do not know yet. However, we also recognize that we need to be responsible and not wait until the last minute to make a final decision. Once we establish a formal timeline by which we would need to announce cancellation, we will share that date.
Due to the upfront costs that the Lighthouse 100 has already incurred, we have a strict and uniform policy of no refunds, exchanges, or person-to-person bib transfer. However, we DO offer runners the option to defer their entry to the following year for ANY reason. If the race goes on as scheduled and any runner chooses not to participate, we will gladly defer entry their to the following year. Should the decision be made to cancel the 2020 Lighthouse 100, all entries will be rolled over to 2021.
I appreciate your patience and understanding in this time of uncertainty.
